Welcome to the Elmastukwek Mawio’mi!
Join us from August 8–10, 2025, as we gather in celebration and community.
We greet you as Mi’kmaw people—People of this Land. Our roots run deep and wide, connecting us to this place we’ve called home for countless generations. We invite you to connect with one of the oldest living cultures in Newfoundland.
Elmastukwek is the Mi’kmaw name for the Bay of Islands. It is a horseshoe shaped area that includes the north shore, the south shore, and the city of Corner Brook. It means going away from the river, referencing the great Humber River that empties into the harbour. Elmastukwek sits at the heart of Mi’kmaw territory in Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland).
Mawi’omi is the m’ikmaw word for gathering. Every year we gather here with people from all cultures and backgrounds in an inclusive environment. Local indigenous and non-indigenous people alike come together to learn, connect, experience and celebrate.
We value relationships—our relationships with each other, with the land, and with all living beings. Through this Mawi’omi, we seek to honour the teachings of our ancestors, living them out for our children and grandchildren.
Pjila’si! Be welcome. We hope to see you there.
