PAUL PIKE

Paul Pike is from the Mi’kmaq Nation on the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland). He is originally
from Corner Brook and currently resides in Stephenville Crossing. He comes from the Gabriel,
Young, Dobbin, and McHugh families. He also has two daughters, Eva and Aaliyah who are
amazing dancers.
He currently works at Newfoundland Health Services as the Manager of Indigenous Health &
Cultural Safety and is based in Western NL.
Preserving and educating others about Mi’kmaw history and culture in NL has been his passion and
his identity.
Paul has been a Men’s Northern Traditional Dancer since 1992, and he has danced far and wide for
the healing of all people. He has been walking the Red Road since then and he was given
permission to dance this style from the LaFever Family from Busby Montana, Northern Cheyenne
Nation.
Paul continues to educate and share stories and songs of lived experiences of the Mi’kmaw people
of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) and beyond.
To quote a lyric from one of Paul’s songs “We Belong”, he says “We choose to live the way our
ancestors have lived, we choose to pray the way our ancestors have prayed, and with these prayers
we pray for peace and understanding, that we may be free to be ourselves”.
